Salisbury Food Festival Hedgerow Herb Walk

This gentle walk will take you along some of the farm hedgerows and fields to discover the wealth of medicine growing right beneath our feet. Along the way Medical Herbalist Rachel Heathcote will teach you how to identify, harvest, prepare and use these plants for treating common ailments such as coughs, colds, upset tummy, wounds, injuries, burns, skin conditions, stress and much more.This walk will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the area you live in, as well as to enjoy the beautiful setting the community farm provides.

calendulaThe plants which grow around us provide a wonderful medicine chest. This workshop will teach you about the essential herbs you can keep at home for treating common ailments. The morning will start with a gentle herb walk around the beautiful Knoll gardens to identify some of the medicinal plants. Along the way you will learn about the medicinal actions of these plants, how to harvest and prepare them and discover which common ailments they may help treat.

workshop1After the walk we head to the undercover teaching area for a hands-on talk and demonstration. You will learn how to make simple remedies such as marigold macerated oil, lemon balm tincture, elderberry cordial and herbal baths. There will be recipe sheets and samples to take away with you.

With each individual herb we will discuss the key medicinal actions, therapeutic uses, dosages and safety information. This includes looking at herbs to help with wounds, bites, burns, upset digestion, insomnia, stress, coughs & colds, pain and much more.
